how important is a grassed garden?
i am moving house and found one that would be perfect, except for one thing. the garden has a vERY small patio area, a shed and then a stoned parking area. the road is too busy to park on it, so i’d need the space. but i have a 9 month old daughter, would grass be essential for her next summer? we currently live in a house with two very large lawns, but don’t really use them!

Only you can decide how important it is for your daughter to have grass to play on. If this isn’t going to be a permanent address for you, she could be just as happy playing on the patio next summer. There are bugs in grass, but usually not on patios.
Your daughter will be needing running space soon. It might be possible to make it work, but you will have to give some thought ahead of time to how you will handle your daughter’s need to stretch her legs once she’s super active. Is there a park nearby? It sounds like the front yard/neighborhood won’t be a great place for playing, if your street gets much traffic.
If you do move into this house, I hope you will make a commitment to get out with your daughter at least several times a week, to the park, or to take a walk/trike ride once she’s big enough. She’s going to need the fresh air and exercise.
