How to Build a Storage Shed With Plans

October 6th, 2011 No comments

www.YesYouCanTrust.com A simple storage shed can be constructed in one or two weekends. If a concrete slab is in place, building a shed will be much faster. It pays to invite a few friends to help, since managing the framework is difficult with just one or two people. Cutting and assembling the basic framework will be the most difficult part of shed construction. Use a circular saw to cut framework for a concrete pour. Build the patio base 8 inches deep. Use 2-by-8-inch boards to construct the box to hold the concrete. Use 2-by-4-inch boards to build the shed’s basic framework. Construct the wood skeleton of the building by installing wall studs and ceiling rafters on 16-inch centers. Secure all framing with stainless steel screws installed with an electric screwdriver. Build one wall section at a time, and check all work with a carpenter’s leveling tool. Leave openings on each wall for a window. Finish the roof area. Nail 1/2-inch plywood to the roof of the shed to cover the rafters. Install tar paper and asphalt shingles. Cover exposed rafters by nailing on fascia boards. Enclose the bottom of the exposed rafters with plywood. Add guttering to the perimeter of the building, if desired. Caulk all appropriate gaps. Install aluminum-framed sliding windows in spaces left for windows. Secure the framework of the windows to the wood framing using stainless-steel screws. Add exterior-grade siding on the outside of the shed, caulk and prepare to paint exposed wood. to learn

TheFindingOut.com/shed-plan – Making Your Own Shed Plan Easy Find out to the local building department to know that you need a specific permit. Clear the land and level by excavating dirt out of high areas or filling in low spots. Ensure electricity is at the site to operate power tools. Locate the foundation blocks in place. Construct a frame out of joist stock that is the same size as the shed’s perimeter. Cut and install joists then lay and nail ¾-inch sheets of plywood for the floor. Cut and nail the wall studs-16 inches apart-that go between the top and bottom plates. Cover the studs with ½-inch plywood sheathing. Cut a door opening in the sheathing that is 2 inches larger than the door. Construct the roof by installing pole supports for the rafters, 1 vertical pole at each end of the shed topped by 1 horizontal ridgepole. Build and attach the trusses. Trim out and side the shed. Glue then nail the rake board, the horizontal trim piece nailed to the ends of the rafters, immediately below the roof edge. Tack a board along the base then nail the siding and cut off any protruding edges. Apply the roof by asphalt shingles. Tack roofing felt to the sheathing. Install drip edges to the gable edges. Nail a course of roof shingles upside down with the tabs facings toward the peak. Cover the start shingles with a row of three tab shingles with the tabs facing down. Install pre-hung doors and take out the bottom plate inside the rough opening. Insert a shim behind each hinge
