My mum first spotted the rat coming out from under the garden shed and wondering round the garden, she HATES rats and wants it gone. I am a animal lover and don’t want it to be harmed. (i feel very strongly about this). My mums boyfriend went and told her that if there is one, there is probably more which has really scared her. Her boyfriend has gone out and bought a humane trap so we can release it on the common so it cal live out its days there… but there are problems with this:
a) does it have strong homing instincts (will it come back)
b) if there is more… then getting rid of one wont make a difference
c) rats are smart… could they work their way around such trap??
my mums boyfriend has said that if that doesn’t work then he is going to get a trap that will snap its back when it walks in I REALLY DONT WANT IT TO END LIKE THAT!!!!
I dont know what to do… i love rats but if this trap doesn’t work.. then thats it!
Can anyone help me??? is there anything i can do??? how do i save the rat from a horrible death??
so.. my mums gone and got this humane trap.. now i just want to catch it so i can make sure it lives happily on the common.. and not killed by another trap…. but what is a rats fav food?? what is the best thing to put in a trap??

I’m trying to finish the interior of a garden shed, which has a slant roof. And while it’s not "really" crown moulding, I need to cut a plank at a slant to match the ceiling line to close it out. While I should have been paying attention in geometry, thank God for Y!A. I’m sure there’s a relatively simple process for this. At least, I hope.
I obviously need to elaborate. I am NOT doing real crown moulding. I am closing up the interior of an open wall inside a garden shed (keeping the critters out.) So, I need to cut a plank at an angle to match the slant of the roof. Picture an isocoles (sp?) triangle laying on it’s side pointing right (w/ the right angle at the left). I need to calculate the angle just above that right angle. Come on. There’s gotta be a math geek out there somewhere.
I hate to have to do this but it’s the only option at the moment. We had a tornado come through about a week or so ago & it tore up our entire back fence & parts of the side & our roof. Now the pets are MY responsibility & so I have to pay for everything for them. Food, bedding, litter, etc. Well during the day all of our pets go outside w/ supervision of course, however now they cannot because of the fence. I’m in a pinch I need to build a temporary enclosure for them. I’ve been having to put them on the chain & I hate doing that & the cats like to climb & they almost hung themselves today.
Luckily I was only a few feet away from them. Anyway, I’ve got to pay for the fence since it was to keep the pets in the yard to begin with & I don’t have the money at the moment. I don’t have a job, I use my allowance to pay for their basic stuff & do odd jobs when I can. I’ve got a job lined up in about 2 weeks but I need something now. My dogs are little so I don’t need chain link, chicken/poultry wire will be enough.
It’s mainly for my cats, the dogs can stay on the chains outside for the next week or so if they have to. I’m going to add it onto the end of our garden shed which is being renovated into my bedroom. I plan for it to be at least 10′ x 10′ x 6′. Will this be big enough for a temporary enclosure? Also, should I use 2×4′s or metal? Which one is cheaper & should I use U nails? Will they be able to dig under gravel? I don’t have enough money to buy blocks. I know it’s a lot of q’s but I want them to be free & safe.
I have been looking for a garden shed that is about 2.5 – 3m long and about a meter to a 1.5m wide but the door must be on the shorter end. I have a spot where beside my house that I need an odd garden shed like this for, but have been unable to find any?
We moved into our first house this winter. It’s kind of out in the country in a little neighborhood next to farmland. We discovered this spring that we have some large wasp nests in the "attic." (Attic, is probably an overstatement… it’s really just a sort of crawlspace between the roof and the ceiling filled by insulation and is nearly impossible to reach except by sticking our heads or hands up through the light fixtures. We discovered the nests when we noticed a large number of wasp bodies in some of the light fixtures and took them down to clean them.) My husband knocked down a large one above our office and soaked it with pesticide (to the point of the pesticide soaking through the ceiling and making a big mess) but I think that nest is still active because our lights are collecting bodies again and I can hear them buzzing now and again. He’s going to try to seal off some of the holes in the vent near the roof, but I think they’re getting in other ways too.
They also like to build nests in our garden shed and now in our mailbox! I’m assuming they are paper-wasps based on the icky gray nests they build.
How do we evict them from our property completely? How do we get them to stop constantly building nests? I’m afraid of having all this pesticide in the house all the time, but we don’t know what else to do about them.
Help!!

Hi, welcome to Plans For Sheds my name is Steve. I am a family man, with 3 kids and yes I am happily married. And if my wife reads this, I am very happily married! My DIY and building skills are OK but when I followed some foolproof blueprints I was able to build my own garden shed plus a play house for my girls. You wouldn't believe what a focal pint it has made in our yard.
