How to build outdoor pet enclosure?

January 27th, 2011 1 comment

I hate to have to do this but it’s the only option at the moment. We had a tornado come through about a week or so ago & it tore up our entire back fence & parts of the side & our roof. Now the pets are MY responsibility & so I have to pay for everything for them. Food, bedding, litter, etc. Well during the day all of our pets go outside w/ supervision of course, however now they cannot because of the fence. I’m in a pinch I need to build a temporary enclosure for them. I’ve been having to put them on the chain & I hate doing that & the cats like to climb & they almost hung themselves today.

Luckily I was only a few feet away from them. Anyway, I’ve got to pay for the fence since it was to keep the pets in the yard to begin with & I don’t have the money at the moment. I don’t have a job, I use my allowance to pay for their basic stuff & do odd jobs when I can. I’ve got a job lined up in about 2 weeks but I need something now. My dogs are little so I don’t need chain link, chicken/poultry wire will be enough.

It’s mainly for my cats, the dogs can stay on the chains outside for the next week or so if they have to. I’m going to add it onto the end of our garden shed which is being renovated into my bedroom. I plan for it to be at least 10′ x 10′ x 6′. Will this be big enough for a temporary enclosure? Also, should I use 2×4′s or metal? Which one is cheaper & should I use U nails? Will they be able to dig under gravel? I don’t have enough money to buy blocks. I know it’s a lot of q’s but I want them to be free & safe.

Need advice about a neighbor that is upset with me, because I built a shed. It is on my property but she is up?

Any advice will be helpful live in a subdivision and have 1 acre. So I out up a garden shed and after I put it up I found out the neighbor is mad about where I put it. I checked with the association and all is well, about the type and size. I have around 00.00 in it so it is a nice shed. Now the neighbor will not even talk to me They have an above ground pool and drain it onto my property flooding the shed area and around my deck and garden. When I talked to them about it he more or less told me he can not do anything about it because I have a low area in my yard. I know that it is illegal to do this, I mean he can drain it onto the Ground but can’t flood someone else’s property. But he continues to do it. Now he will vacuum the pool and use a short hose and directs the water my way. He has a natural ditch in the back of their ward but refuses to use it. They also have friends who are cops so every time we leave the house we are being followed. Also we have only lived here for 4 yrs. so I am at the bottom of the good-ol-boy system. We Had this house built for our retirement and spent the money we saved for the house and property. I do not want to move but think the situation is only going to get worse. Any advice will be helpful. I do not wish to get my lawyer involved I think that will only add to the problem. I do not want to be retired and fighting with a neighbor. This is our dream home HELP My wife is partly disabled and loves to set in the yard and watch the birds rabbits and squirrels so they had security cameras put on their house and watch our every move. All of this for a 00.00 shed. They also had their lot surveyed and tell me not to get in their yard while mowing my own yard. I cannot call the police, as they are all friends and it does no good.

There's this black liquid flowing out of the ground in my garden?

November 20th, 2010 9 comments

I was digging some foundations for my new shed, then all of a sudden a fountain of some sort of black liquid started spraying out of the hole I was digging. Now it’s swamped all my flower beds.

Any ideas of how I can raise some money to get some new flower beds? And maybe stop the flow?

I live with my family and we have in our back garden a medium lawn but want to change it. we have a medium lawn and a small pond in the corner a nice patio a greenhouse and a shed. we went to the library to look at books and would like to have decking in the middle or cobbles in a circle and have stone around the edges with alpine plants like aloe vera. would that be nice or should we just save our money?

building a nature garden?

May 22nd, 2010 2 comments

i live with my folks (due to lack of money, not out of want!) and they have quite a reasonable sized garden. however, they are planning to pave most of it, and what areas they don’t pave are going to build sheds and pergolas etc on. i’m getting into nature photography quite heavily, and wanted to attract alot of UK wildlife into our garden, but i’m having trouble finding a way to do this seeing as they’re going to be wiping out most of the nature from our garden!! does anyone have any tips on bringing animals into a garden such as this?

Why Are Plans For Sheds So Important?

November 6th, 2009 No comments

Well this is a quiestion a lot of people ask themselves. Obviously it’s understandable, especially if plans are going to cost a few dollars or if you think you know how to complete your project anyway.

So why is it a good idea to get your hands on some instructions for your shed, barn, garage or chicken coop?

Actually there are a few reasons that this is a good idea. Firstly think about the time you will save when you have all the dimensions, tools and materials listed in front of you. There’s going to be no head scratching as you fumble your way around a hardware store figuring out what you need. Plus your not going to miss a vital step like those extra long self tapping screws for the roof or something.

I also like the idea of blueprints because of the sheer amount of ideas you’re going to get. For example the site that I recommend has around 12,000 different designs. So there’s a good chance you will find one that suits your needs and it could even be better than the initial idea you have in your head as to what the finished project should be.

But here’s my favourite reason for getting yourself some blueprints. They are compiled by a total expert. not hashed together by a bunch of marketing guys who couldn’t hang a picture. These are real instructions that have been carefully planned and prepared by someone that has built and checked every single step, one at a time.

For me that was worth the investment alone.

OK so your plans may cost you a few dollars, but think of the money you will save by not making mistakes?! If you ruined a panel of wood and purchased the wrong nails you could well exceed the cost of a good guide in repairs!
