Woodchuck vs. Garden Shed?

September 6th, 2010 admin 1 comment

We built a shed on our property about 4 weeks ago. We used #2 gravel for the base. We now have a family of woodchucks that keep burrowing under the shed. They are kicking the stones out and making a terrible mess. We keep filling in their tunnels and they keep remaking them. How do I keep these little buggers out from under my shed?

how important is a grassed garden?

August 28th, 2010 admin 2 comments

i am moving house and found one that would be perfect, except for one thing. the garden has a vERY small patio area, a shed and then a stoned parking area. the road is too busy to park on it, so i’d need the space. but i have a 9 month old daughter, would grass be essential for her next summer? we currently live in a house with two very large lawns, but don’t really use them!

August 24th, 2010 admin 1 comment

Im installing a patio in my garden using flagstones.
I also have concrete steps going up to the next level of my garden and a concrete path leading to my shed.
I was thinking of continuing the flagstones up to the shed.
Can i just use sand and cement mortar to attach the flagstones to the steps and path?

About making a garden shed rainproof.?

August 19th, 2010 admin 3 comments

Although my shed is tongued and grooved, I notice that water seems to have seeped in between the boards. It never used to have a musty smell in it, but now it has. This is putting a smell on the contents, too. Is there anything I can do about this? Is there something, like a silicone, maybe, that I could seal the boards with? Thanks.

Help with planting spring garden in wet area?

August 8th, 2010 admin 3 comments

I have an area out back of the shed that is consistently wet during the year, especially during the spring and after a good rain. It is almost impossible to mow there and am looking for some suggestions on what kind of possible garden (flowers) or others that I could grow. It gets about 4-5 hours of sun a day, mostly shaded. I’m looking to create some kind of garden there so to help with the "wet feet" I seem to get there each year. I live in growing zone 4/5. Thank you.
